What is occupational therapy?

For children, “occupations” are the everyday things they do: playing, learning, eating, dressing, writing and getting through the day.

Occupational therapy helps your child build the skills and confidence to do these things more easily. Our licensed occupational therapists use play, movement and our purpose-built sensory gym to make therapy engaging and meaningful.

We work with your child’s strengths and adapt activities and environments, not just your child, so everyday life works better.

Therapy plans are individual. They are made by qualified clinicians after careful assessment.

Who this helps

Occupational therapy can help if your child:

  • Is very sensitive to noise, clothing, touch or certain foods
  • Seeks constant movement or finds it hard to sit still
  • Has frequent meltdowns or struggles to calm down
  • Finds dressing, buttons, shoelaces or using utensils hard
  • Struggles with handwriting, scissors or drawing
  • Seems clumsy or has trouble with balance and coordination
  • Finds it hard to focus or organise themselves in class
  • Is autistic, has ADHD, dyspraxia (DCD) or another diagnosis

These signs don’t mean something is wrong. They mean it may be time to get a clearer picture.
